Grizzled old hand in a moment of relaxation is what this environmental portrait in profile captures. This could have been shot on a movie set, a dude ranch or hoedown. The background to the right with the soft image of the woman performing some kitchen task, illustrated by the hanging utensils and buckets, works well to tell us part of the story of what is going on around our subject .
The lighting is flat but in this case it works well to illuminate his face without shadows. The white sky has no interest but in we would not want to be distracted by color or texture.
There are a few things that could be considered. The tarp in the background behind his hat brim on the left is very close in color and hue. This could be modified by selecting the tarp and changing its value.
Another consideration is that the ark of the hat is tangent or nearly tangent to the edge of the frame. This could be cropped just a few pixels to bring it into the illustration. At the same time there is a sliver of a large post that is seen at the front and center of the hat ark. This too could be eliminated with just a little cropping and / or cloning to give the crown of the hat more definition.

Thank you for the comments.
This was taken in the high desert, Pioneer Town is a old sound sage for the late Roy Roger. They were having Cowboy Days and this morning was the last day. This gentlman was about ready to break camp, but he need one last smoke.

Thanks for the information. Was he sitting under a tent or tarp?
