Mahoney Ave

Posted under Abstract, Color, Critiqued, Landscape

Mahoney AveThis is a  creative concept.  The photographer has selected a street with a saddle so the center line could be seen for the greatest distance possible.  The use of color conversion and shallow depth of field works well.  This would not illustrate the same story if the focus was sharp throughout the image.  The dappled light adds some texture to the distance.

If you were fast on your feet and wanted to add more excitement to your photography you could have had a Mac truck bearing down on you.  But for the sake of safety I suppose that’s not such a good idea.

I do have one recommendation.  The painted line on the left has no imperfections in the foreground however the right line has some blemishes that could be removed if you wish.

  1. Hi James, Thank you for your critique. It does make huge difference to remove the imperfections from the painted line. Thank you for the tip. It did made me a little nerves, lying down in the middle of the street without anyone watching out for traffic.

  2. I wonder what the comments were by the little old lady who was watching you lying there in the middle of her street.

  3. I see the imperfections in the right hand line as speed bumps into the image.

  4. Yes, I was wondering about the old lady too. Probably something along the line “My generation would have never done a stupid thing like this”. But maybe then she was a photographer too, and her thought were link “I wish that I could get down and up from the ground like he does”.

  5. I like it. It has a nice, laid back appeal to it.
The only reccomendation I might make is that you will notice a crack in between the two lines very close to the camera and while it was cleaned over where it extened on both of the lines, it remains in the middle. Just a suggestion.

  6. Thank you Ian for your comment and tip!
