Fall Rain

Posted under Color, Critiqued, Landscape

This nature shot creates a refreshing scene.  There is a cretin tranquility to the still clear water over the pattern of stones.  This is one of those shots where there is no well defined subject but it is are able to stand on is own. Graphically you will see a curve created by the shadows of the trees and protruding stones.  The colors of the wet rocks are very nice.

I can see this photograph blown up very large and nicely framed.

There are a few suggestions I would make.  Most important I feel that the focus depth of field should extend all the way through this image.  As it is it is not sharp at the front or rear.  Sharpness will add to the refreshing feeling of the scene.  And there are a couple of minor things I would remove.  At the bottom edge is a shiny spot that could be cloned out.  On the right side there is a the tip of an orange rock you may want to crop out.

  1. I very much agree with the fact that it is a very photogenic scene and a great nature shot.

I would, however, have to diagree with the choice of cropping out the red rock in the top-right corner. The cropping takes out a certain amount of depth from that section. Just an idea.

  2. Ian,

Interesting you would say that, initally I did crop it out of the image and I put it back. But when I did I made a bet with myself that it would be suggested to remove the rock. I WON! I should provide the entire image. This was one small part of what was shot initially and a lot of weeds and debree removed which made it look better but then exposed the remaining things that should be removed.

  3. It may also create an interesting shot if you have one take with the red stone completely included. This would build a half circle with the stones peeking out of the water on the right. Then cropping more from the left and bottom would create another focal point with the stone that is appearing out of the water on the left of the half circle. I like the colors and the freshness of this shot.
