This is a very strong image. The photographer has done a good job of making the subject his own and allowed us to see this flower in a new way. The placement of the floral axis low and to the left is a focal point for our interest. The depth of focus is amazingly sharp all the way through. I am going to guess this was not taken with a close up macro lens but rather cropped down to this size.
I mentioned in an earlier article that the photographer bears all the responsibility for imperfections in this type of close up illustration. Here we have a nearly perfect flower but for some reason there are small spots throughout the photograph. At first I thought they were just blemishes in the flower peddles but I also see them in the dark gray background. The photographer may want to do some test shops agents a gray card and make sure there is nothing wrong with the camera or lens.
There are a couple of ways these can be removed on the computer. You can clone out the spots or you can replace the background. That is what I did with the modified image show below. First I selected the background then replaced it with a graduated gray then while still selected I added some nose to keep the gray from looking too painted in.

I have to agree, the focal point being in the bottom left corner made it very appealing and gave it a certain depth.
I would expect to see this photo on the cover of a National Geographic magazine.
Very good picture all around.

I like the composition of the flower shot. If you take the shot with a slightly lower angel you can also build with the tips of the flower petals a bow line from the bottom right to the top middle.
