Playing the Flute

Playing The FluteThis portrait of a lovely child in her family’s native costume must have been a delight to her parents.  She has such piercing green eyes and strawberry blond hair it is apparent she will be a beauty when she grows up.

Her pose is natural and active at the same time.  I like the way the photo-artist has had the subject posed in a sitting position thus eliminating the background.  This photo could have been taken anywhere in the world.

The photographer has elected to present this image as a near high key illustration rather than a traditional exposure.  Perhaps the photo-artist would consider adding just a little more saturation to bring out more color in the child’s face and hands.  But that’s definitely the photographer’s decision to make.

  1. HI!
now I am convinced that I am sending these to you some how wrong. This is extremely saturated in fact I thought you would tone it down L.O.L.
taken at the renaissance fair. I cloned out the background.

I am going to send you a print from my computer for you to compare.
I wonder what I am doing wrong in the process of sending images to you.
I am pleased you prefer more saturation version.

  2. I think it is a beautiful picture, the child looks to be really enjoying herself. You captured the mood quite well.

  3. Georgia, You have a wonderful shot of a little girl here. I do like soft saturation version, because I think it adds to the overall feeling of the photo. Even with the soft saturation the photo does not have a flat feeling. It would be very interesting to see your high saturated version for comparison.

  4. It turns out you received it correctly Jim. My mistake. I had sent you one of my many versions of her in progress marked Gallery print by mistake. I realized when I saw her left ear and hair were a mess, which I made more defined in the finished piece. some blown out highlights in her garment were also fixed. The final version has more color in her skin tone with rosier cheeks the and the blotchiness smoothed out. also the dress is more vivd in hue.
I agree completely with your need to add more color to her. Especially her skin tone.

  5. Georgia,
Your work never ceases to amaze me. Youa are truely an artist.
