The Golden Flu
The rules of graphics help us explain why an illustration works or why in most cases it fails. This is not to say that the photo-artist needs to follow the rules all the time. They are only tools to help us understand the composition of an image. If the photo-artist is able to break the rules and have a successful image they will have something special.
This image of the common tissue dispenser is an interesting graphic design. There is a strong diagonal line of the counter top and edge cutting across the top of the layout. The face of the counter and chrome dispenser are also on this same one point perspective line. The reflective face of the metal surface revels some interesting vertical patterns and textures. I assume the photo-artist intended the sickly yellow hew over the image to give the feeling of distress.
I would like to suggest to the photographer that the perspective of the face of the counter ending abruptly into the wall so close to the primary subject leaves little to the imagination of the viewer. The effect may be too much of a record shot of the subject with not enough visual interest. Some cropping is possible, and color shifting can be done, but some subjects are difficult to carry though to the imagined results.

Hi Jim, I appreciate your input very much. I agree that there are many elements in this picture that can be changed or modified in order to enhance it. This is what I would call, a experimental picture; it is not a shot I tought about taking, ther is no set up lighting but the one in the room; there was no planning regarding the scene; I just grabbed the camera and shot; why? no explanation. Many times it goes like that. I usually try to extract somehing different out of the ordinary. A slight reflection, a certain angle, a texture, etc. What I thought interesting about the picture where not the elements, but their arrangement; how many triangles can you count in it? It is more in my perspective, a geometrical arrangement of an ordinary everyday life thing. How life can sometimes be so geometrically lined up and yet, not distressful, but longing and dispairing. In any case, after reading your comments, I definitely think a remake would be worth it. Now that I have the sketch, I can go for a more thoughtful taken care of shot. Thank you very much, Jorge.
