Photographer’s Comments:
Oh my GOSH!! More good news on this image. YEA!! I entered this in Cowboys and Indians Magazine, and received an E-Mail just this moring, asking me to send them a large resolutions of Eric on his horse, and three other images I submitted for their contest. They said that they are in the grading process, what equine catagory. Which was my favorite. You have commented on all of them, I think but one. I thank you ever so much. Your critiques helped my decisions on which ones that I sent in.
The cigar was given to Eric from the wranglers congatulating him on his new baby girl as he was heading out for the evening horse round up. I was happy to get this one.

Photographer’s Comments:
Thanks Jim,
What an eye! You caught me; I was to lazy to tote my pack around the lake and realized that I should have brought my 1-1/2 stop Cokin ND Grad filter and holder (they were in my pack)! Nevertheless we had a great time at North L., Mono L., and Bodie. On the way back we stopped in Lone Pine and shot the Alabama Hills. And yes, we found the famous arch.
For those of you that have not visited the Eastern Sierra, it’s a landscape photographer’s playground.

Photographer’s Comments:
I had fun taking this image in Athens of one of two sentries in process of changing of the guard. They march very precisely in sync with each other. They are trained to take this procedure very seriously and that is reflected in the serious expression on this man’s face. They are not permitted even a sidewise glance which can
lead to their dismissal.

Photographer’s Comments:
This picture was taken in Sierra Vista, Az. on September 9th 2007. It was our last real monsoon thunderstorm of the year and my last chance to get a real good lighting photo. The storm came across the valley at 6:30 to around a little after 7:00 that evening. There was a lot of action going on with this storm. Off to the left the clouds were breaking over the Huachuca Mountains and behind me there was a rainbow forming. The settings were .40 of a second, f/2.90, ISO 200. This shot was a little bit hard with the lighting changing as fast as it was.

Photographer’s Comments:
Thank you for judging my photo . I have a fasination with free falling water drops & what I can capture in them . I have not had much luck in finding others who have profected this type of waterdrop photography . I would very much like to find others who are interested in this type of macro photography . Lighting for this type of photography can be a challange .while interested in other areas of photography water drop photography is the one I have put the most work into . This photo was taken in my kitchen sink , a photo as a back drop for my water drops to capture . A fast shutter speed ,Timming , good lighting ,timming & luck all factor in . choosing the right backdrop, the comp ,& the DOF in my water drop photography . When doing a shoot like this one I will do maybe 100-200 shots & end up with 3 -4 but only one with a ,for me wow factor . I was not sure others would be as interested in this type of photography & find I have little to compare my work with . Most water drops I have come across are either still & refracting or falling or bouncing but not refracting images in them . Does anyone know of a photographer who does this type of water drops . Thank you , Connie

Photographers Comments:
First the data: 50th of a sec @ F6.3 - 2/3 exposure comp. iso 1000 I had my camera set before I entered the hogan so all I had to concentrate on was shooting. There was a large shaft of light about 8 feet to her right. So I dropped down and was flat on the ground between her and the shaft of light. It was all over in about 2 minutes.

Photographer’s Comments:
This was taken outside one of the ranch houses at the Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad, CA–around noon (1/125 f/5.6 ISO400, 28-80mm @ 80mm, Canon Rebel XTi, “processed” in Lightroom). Unfortunately, there was a lot of dirt on top of some of the leaves(petals?) on the lower half that I had to crop out pushing the bright spot lower into the composition than I would have liked. My favorite aspect of the image is definitely the glowing edges, which I didn’t even notice until I got home and went through my shots!

The exposure was 1/500 sec to catch the falling leafs at f2.8 70 mm 400 ISO Canon Mark 2 using 8 frames per second. As you can see I removed the larger tree stump that was too centered after I cropped it.

“After reading your critique I was simply astounded. One would think you were hanging right over my shoulder in the making of this.
I added some details like the falling leaves on the ground. I selected them from the trees and used the transfer tool to warp the leafs to bend or go flat. Then I dragged and dropped them where I thought they would add a little more realism to the collage.”

“I was standing on a roof top observation deck. The camera was hand held. The only processing was a noise reduction filter for large image reproduction. The ISO was 400. Fstop 5.6 The exposure time was just over 1 sec. Sometimes it all just clicks.”
